Experiencing Woodcracker® first-hand!

Westtech Maschinenbau made a day full of practical experience in an energy forest possible together with Hargassner Heiztechnik. It took place on the 22nd of September 2020 and was held for the HTL Ried’s pupils due to the “forest week” of the 4th grade.

A day full of practical experiences happened for the pupils of the 4th grade (17/18-year-old) of the agricultural and environmental technology department on Hargassner’s area in Weng im Innkreis. In the on-site energy forest, the teenagers got to know how to handle a Woodcracker® CL260 with accumulator on a Takeuchi TB290 9-ton excavator.

Under the thorough guidance of WESTTECH employee Klaus Stadler the teenagers not only learned about the handling and functionality of the Woodcracker® but also crucial background information regarding the machine harvesting and therefore the necessary logistics chain. The pupils got to harvest trees from the 5 years short-rotation plantation.

Westtech partnered with the HTL (= school for higher technical education) for engineering in Ried since the beginning of 2020. The company wants to support the pupils on a long term and boosts the education with practical trainings and know how. The students have a forest week usually in the third grade as a part of their education in the agricultural and environmental technology department, which got postponed from spring to autumn due to the Coronavirus.
