Land clearing along the banks of the Danube with WOODCRACKER

In January 2017, the excavator and forestry service provider Martin Gotsmi carried out land clearing along the banks of the Danube in Marbach, Lower Austria, with the aid of WOODCRACKER forestry technology. The service provider Gotsmi GmbH from Klein Pöchlarn received the order to clear the embankement of 4 km in length from trees and bushes, to prepare the area for a new building project. Marbach suffered massive damage after floods in 2002 and 2013 and eventually got the approval for the building of a new flood protection.

To carry out the task in the most efficient way, Gotsmi used three 15-ton-excavators, a chipper, a truck for transport as well as a WOODCRACKER C350 cutting head and the WOODCRACKER G clearing rake. Due to this logistic chain, ashes, poplars and willows up to 60cm in diameter were harvested, chipped and delivered in only one week. The chipped material was brought to an heating plant for thermal utilisation. The remaining root material was removed from the soil with the WOODCRACKER G clearing rake, shredded and composted.

Martin Gotsmi draws a conclusion, “The WOODCRACKER machines are perfectly suitable for such tasks, because we can work without any dwell times or interruptions. This task can only be performed in such a short time with reliable machines, therefore we can simply recommend WOODCRACKER.”
